Island ID Numbers

Just posted today is the list of Canadian Island ID numbers, by province, that was on the old Canadian Island Award website (this website now seems to have disappeared totally).

The island lists can be found on the right hand side of this Blog.

One problem with these ID numbers is that they do not tell you the location of the islands in case of multiple islands with the same name.

If anyone can help ID which number goes to what location please let us know.  Our email is: canadaradio.01 at gmail.com

Upper Brewers Mill Island

Coming up on Sunday, November 10th, is probably the last activation of 2013.

Frontenac Radio Group will be trying to activate Upper Brewers Mills Island.  This island has not been activated before, although it has been attempted on one previous occasion.

The guys plan on being on the air between 1530 UTC and 1800 UTC.

Frequencies in use will be 28.450;  21.350; and 14.250 to 14.260.  All frequencies are +/- 10 Kc.

Let's get on the air and try and make it a successful activation this time.

Iroquois Island

Just had an email from Graham, VE3GTC, advising us of his activation today, Saturday, October 19th of Iroquois Island ON-271, and possibly Ault Island ON-087.

Iroquois Island and the Locks
Graham has no fixed plans on time or frequency other than weather permitting sometime during the day, and typical SSB and CW frequencies depending on conditions, but likely limited to 20m and 15m.

This brings us up to five island activations on the St. Lawrence River today, and another two coming tomorrow.

Don't forget to work the JOTA stations as well this weekend, got to get those kids hooked !

2013 W/VE Island QSO Party

Next weekend, October 19th and 20th, is the W/VE Island QSO Party.  The rules for this event may be found HERE.

The Island QSO Party is one way we can promote working islands, be it US Islands, Canadian Islands, or IOTA.

This is an excellent time to get out and activate a local island, there will be lots of them on the air to work.  So get out there and enjoy the great fall weather.

Please post your activation notices to: canadaradio.01 at gmail.com

Welcome to the new blog pages for Canadian Island Activations.  This site will ensure that Canadian island activators have a place to advertise their activations and let other hams know what frequencies will be in use, time and date of the activation, and most important, the location, island name and ID number.

Over the next few days we will post the rules for activating islands, and also the known islands that have valid ID numbers.

Over the past few years support for Canadian island activators has been pretty dismal, we hope to change that!
